Editing in Audacity

Here's a quick list of the steps to follow to edit an audio file in Audacity. For more instructions, click on a step to jump to the details for that step or go through the details step by step.

1. Open your file
2. Maximize your window and view of the audio graph
3. Listen to the recording. Find the start and end points of the clip you want to use
4. Zoom in on the section you want to edit
5. Select your sound clip
6. Split the file
7. Resize the window so you can see both tracks
8. Select and remove the original track
9. If necessary, shift the clip to the beginning of the track
10. Fine-tune the edits
11. Fade out the ending of the clip
12. Fade in the beginning of the clip
13. Save your project file
14. Export your audio clip
