iOS Apps for Music Education

Filed under: Tech in Music Ed, Sp13 — jmeschi @ 10:12 am

Here’s a page you should visit to see a listing of some music apps, with a focus on iOS and MACs.

Look through the list to see what apps are available and in a more general way, what programmers are developing. If you’re using another platform, the list should give you an idea of what you should look for in your App store.

Thank you Kayla for sending me the link.

Using Notation Software

Filed under: Tech in Music Ed, Sp13 — jmeschi @ 9:36 am

As found in Chapter 7 of our textbook here are some uses of notation software:

For teachers:

  • Rewrite parts to meet the demands of an ensemble
  • Further listening skills via immediate feedback (formative assessment)
  • Write out exercises or create a complete method book
  • Develop composing and arranging skills (meet standard 4)
  • Create lead sheets with lyrics and chords

Some possible uses for students include:

  • Create original music
  • Transcribe melodies, perhaps parts they are playing in ensembles
  • Create ledgible theory class assignments

Look through Chapter 7 again for further uses. And, of course, use your own imagination :-)
