  • Obtaining an Overall Equation

  • Now that two half-reactions are balanced, we can combine the two to get an overall reaction.

    The only thing you have to worry about now is to have the same number of electrons in both equations. In our reduction equation we have 2e- . We have 3e- in the oxidation equation. The, if you multiply the whole reduction equation by 3, and the oxidation equation by 2, then both equations will have 6e-, such that we can cancel the electrons!
