Professor R. H. Red Owl, Ph.D.

Dr. Red Owl serves as a Professor of Research Methods and Statistics in the Doctoral Program in Interdisciplinary Educational Studies at Long Island University's College of Education, Information, and Technology.  Previously, he served on the faculties of the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy at the University at Albany (State University of New York) and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia.  He has held several senior leadership roles in higher education in SUNY and at Long Island University, including service as Vice President for Information Systems and Vice President for Planning in the central administration at Long Island University.

His research focuses primarily on the related areas of expert judgment modeling, decision-making, and choice analysis.  He has special interests in research methods and statistical modeling and also serves as a statistical consultant and advisor.  His most recent research involves studies of expert judgment in special education and literacy.

Professor Red Owl has chaired doctoral dissertations on topics such areas as decision-making and expert judgment, academic culture, organizational behavior and leadership, school finance, and humanistic studies.  Reflecting his interdisciplinary interests, he has also served as a research methods advisor for dissertations in educational leadership, public administration & policy, counseling psychology, economics, and information studies.  His doctoral dissertation won best dissertation awards nationally in two disciplines.  He holds a Ph.D. in public administration and policy from the University of Georgia and a master's degree in public administration from Georgia State University, and completed additional graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
