For your Final Projects, complete Option A and either Option B or C or D. Choose a project based on the area of music technology you would like to further explore.

These projects and all other assigned work must be submitted by 4pm on December 23. Note: our final session will be held Monday, December 21 at 1:50 pm. All are required to attend the final session.

Option A — From the Textbook – Required for Everyone

Complete one of the Activities or Suggested Activities found throughout our textbook or in one of the Appendices. More on this option in class.

Option B — Sequencing Project

Complete a sequencing project of at least 32 measures with a minimum of 4 to 5 tracks and timbres. The minimum length is two minutes.

You should pick from one of the following categoires:

Composer (original music composed by you)
Create a mix of music you've written. Most if not all tracks should be created/performed by you or others musician. Audio and MIDI loops are permitted (e.g. Drummer track).

Producer/Arranger
Arrange/Produce an existing song. Most if not all tracks should be created/performed by you or other musicians. Audio and MIDI loops are permitted (e.g. Drummer track).

Mixer
Taking nultitrack audio stems or tracks from a MIDI file, create a mix of an existing song/compostion.

In each of the above categories each track in your project should include appropriate volume, pan and automation settings and effects plugins.

For the Composer and Producer/Arranger projects, you will receive extra credit if vocals are included.

For all of the above there will be extra credit if you include an Arrangement Track if working in a DAW that includes an Arrangement Track feature (as demonstrated in class earlier in the semester).

Additional requirements will be based on discussions with JM and what you want to get out of the project. Explore! Strech your knowledge!

The choice of music is yours. If you don't have a specific choice, you should sequence The Star Spangled Banner or God Bless America.

When completed send an mp3 or m4a version of your project to JM at the assignment address AND submit your project file as well. (How you submit this project file is still to be determined.)y

Sites where you can find multitrack audio stems or MIDI files:
TELEFUNKEN
Cambridge Music Technology
Remix Packs
Ultimate Guitar

Google Search for Remix Packs

vanBasco's Search for MIDI files (Some are good, some aren't)

Option C — Notation Project

Complete a final notation project of at least 24 to 32 measures with 4 or more instruments and staves. One transposing instrument is required.

Your score should include more than just the notes, i.e. appropriate dynamics marks, phrase marks, slurs, etc. must be included.

The choice of music is yours. If you don't have a specific choice, you can arrange a Bach Fugue for a quartet of your choice.

On completion, send the project file and PDF versions of the score and each part to JM at the assignment address.

Option D — Advanced Audio Project (GarageBand or Audacity or DAW)

Talk to JM about the requirements of this option. There are a few possibilities from which to choose. Think of this option as an extended version of the soundtrack, ringtone ot audio projects done earlier this semester. More in class.
