Introduction to Musical Concepts C.W. Post Department of Music

Music Notation

Music notation is the written language of music. It is a symbolic language -- where symbols are used to represent musical information needed to perform a piece.

This information includes what pitches to sing or play (pitch notation), how long to play each pitch (rhythm notation), how fast or slow to play the music (tempo notation) and how to play the notes (dynamics and articulation notation).
