日本の夏、2008
Summer in Japan, 2008

Indigenous people of Japan, before displacement by people from the Eurasia  continent, had beautiful pottery making practices, dates all the way back some 15,000 years.  It is thought of the oldest in the world.  Among their pottery, my favorite is “Ka-en doki (火焔土器)”.  This flaming pottery, that’s what “ka-en” means, is really of modern taste.  Their design is so open and creative that modern artists should really look into!  In Gunma, there aren’t many incredible looking ka-en doki, but I’ve seen few interesting one.  The pictures below, admittedly bad quality due to no-flash policy in the museum and I didn’t have a tripod with me when I shot these in relatively low lighting condition.  Sorry.

Oldest Jomon pottery
Part of oldest collection
Again, the left three oldest ones.
Look at decoration.
Cool!
The one on right has spiral shell fish decoration.
Same shell-fish one, but different angle.
Cool decoration.
Can I call this Ka-en doki?
